Melissa has over 16 years’ experience working with the private sector, policy makers and regulators to respond to a variety of sustainability challenges and build more sustainable enterprises and markets. The majority of Melissa’s clients operate in the finance, infrastructure, extractives and industrial sectors in emerging market economies. A key focus area is advising financial sector actors on environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks at an investment level but also regulators on emerging systemic risks to financial markets. She is currently supporting a number of commercial banks and private equity funds internationally with the design and implementation of their environmental and social risk management systems.
Since 2007 Melissa has been the core tutor for UNEP FI’s environmental and social risk analysis e-learning programme for investment officers in addition to facilitating numerous seminars globally with the finance sector. She has also supported the banking sector in Nigeria with the development and implementation their Sustainable Banking Principles, building awareness with Bank Executive and Non-executive Directors and the CEOs and Board members of the finance sector regulators.
Melissa holds a MA from Oxford University in Pure & Applied Biology and an MBA.
Paulina has participated actively in the finance and sustainability sector by providing consultancy service in the areas of Microfinance and Management of Protected Areas in Latin America. As a specialist consultant, she provided practical tools to monitor financial costs with a sustainability perspective in Banco Estado Chile and Southern Environmental Association in Belize.
Paulina currently leads the Business Management and Strategic Leadership and Management programs at Oxford Business College in the UK. Her participation from the academic perspective has allowed her to influence international young students and professionals to adopt a more proactive approach to Sustainable Finance. Paulina has been in charge of designing, implementing and evaluating academic modules such as Managing Sustainability in the Corporate World, Professional Development for managers under Sustainability Principles and Corporate Governance.
As Vice Chair of Finance and Administration at Grupo Calesa in Panama, Paulina designed, resourced and implemented the Department of Social and Environmental Monitoring and achieved the First National Certification of Good Practices in Environment Management for Grupo Calesa.
Jörg has an extensive experience in managing environmental and social issues of investment projects in numerous developing countries including 15 countries in Africa. Based on his technical and commercial education in Aachen, Germany and Paris, France he has worked as Head of the Environment Group of the United Nations Asian and Pacific Center for Transfer of Technology in New Delhi, India.
Jörg was employed by DEG as an environmental and social expert. During this time, he got an in-depth inside view of the financing sector thereby better understanding the necessary balance between economic, ecological and social considerations. Among others he was in charge of environmental and social due diligence for banks and Private Equity Funds and many projects in sectors with high E&S risk potential.
After leaving DEG, he founded Innovativkonzept Ltd and has assisted many financial institutions and private equity funds in setting up a proper environmental and social risk management systems. Further, he has been in charge of E&S due diligence for several large scale infrastructure investment projects based on the IFC Performance Standards. Also, he has acted as IFC’s E&S advisor on numerous large scale investment projects.
Jörg is currently assisting the Sri Lankan Banks Association with their Sustainable Finance Initiative.
Sandy is currently the Regional Sustainable Finance Expert at WWF Kenya, where he is responsible for providing competent and strategic support to the East Africa Sustainable Investments Programme and co-leading Sustainable Finance work stream in the region. The Programme is geared towards influencing financial and investment flows associated with major developments in the Eastern Africa Region (Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique) through financial market, policy and regulation and trade and investment interventions.
Previously, he was a Senior Finance Analyst within a Corporate Finance team at Deloitte East Africa where he worked extensively on transaction advisory work streams including M&A due diligence investigations, financial and market analysis & research, business valuations and financial modelling. His coverage included manufacturing, services (real estate, education, and logistics), financial services, energy (geothermal, oil & gas) and telecommunications. His coverage was Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda.
He has also worked as a Consultant within the Global Urban Observatory (GUO) at UN-HAHBITAT, and as an Investment Analyst Intern, at Guardian Managers (UK) Limited, a London Canary Wharf based Hedge Fund, where he supported the portfolio managers, and the Investment and Risk Committees. Through his experience, he has worked extensively with local and international organizations, including Governments and state owned corporations, listed companies, private sector clients, NGOs and DFIs.
He holds an MSc in Finance, Investment and Risk from the University of Kent, Canterbury, United Kingdom, and a BSc Actuarial Science. He has also undertaken the Sustainable Finance Programme from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.
Olumide Lala is a Climate Finance Specialist with over 25 years of change management and capital markets development experience. His career is focused on driving the development of green bond markets, sustainable finance and finding solutions to challenges of climate change across Africa.
He comes with a wealth of knowledge in product development, risk management, business process re-engineering, and stakeholder management.
Olumide holds a B.Sc degree in Accounting from the University of Hull, England, an M.Sc in Business Systems Analysis and Design from the City University, London, England, and an MBA from the Imperial College, London, England. Olumide is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (FIoB) and a Member of the Institute of Directors (MIoD).
